Abstract

In the present work, a Znsingle bondAl layered double hydroxide (LDH) conversion coating was synthesized on 2024-T3 aluminum alloy by a one-step hydrothermal method. For this purpose, the effect of synthesis parameters, including the amount of Zn2+ cations and hexamethylenetetramine molecules, on the structural changes were evaluated by using the scanning electron microscopy (SEM) equipped with energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) analysis and X-ray diffraction (XRD) spectroscopy. Also, benzimidazole (BI), as corrosion inhibitor of the AA2024-T3, was intercalated into the LDH film structure by an anion-exchange process. The intercalation of BI molecules into the LHD structure was studied using the SEM-EDS and XRD analysis. Furthermore, elec

Abstract

The current paper aimed to investigate the mechanism of Ni-Se electrodeposition and contribute a comprehensive understanding of Ni-Se deposition by pulse potential technique. Firstly, electrochemical mechanisms including the reactions and nucleation mechanism of Ni-Se on glassy carbon electrode were studied using cyclic voltammetry (CV) and chronoamperometry (CA) techniques, respectively. Moreover, to investigate the nucleation and growth mode influenced by different concentrations and applied deposition potential, experimental results were fitted into Bewick 2D nucleation and Scharifker-Hills 3D nucleation models. Current transient curves showed the electrodeposition of Ni-Se phase follows both the 2D nucleation and 3D progressive nucleati

Abstract

The electrocatalytic activity of the pulse electrodeposited Ni–Se coating on nickel foam (NF) for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) was optimized by design of experiments. In this study as the first step of optimization, the condition of electrodeposition bath containing the ratio of Se/Ni, pH, and temperature was optimized. The response surface methodology (RSM) in central composite design (CCD) was used for experiments based on the parameters of the ratio of Se/Ni and pH. The prediction model after carrying out the analyses of variance (ANOVA) on the responses showed the best desirable values for the ratio of Se/Ni and pH were 0.7 and 3.6. The nanostructure Ni–Se electrode electrodeposited in the op

Abstract

Development of high-performance catalyst materials with superior activity is among the high challenges in hydrogen production. In this study, the platinum nanoparticles@graphene oxide@nickel-copper@nickel foam (Pt@GO@Ni-Cu@NF) electrode was fabricated using the electrodeposition method. The synthesized electrode demonstrated a high electrocatalytic activity and superior stability in alkaline solution. The required overpotentials for delivering 10, 20, and 100 mA cm−2 were 31, 50, and 128 mV vs. RHE, respectively. The hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) mechanism, affording to the Tafel slope (51 mV dec−1), was Volmer-Heyrovsky mechanism. The electrode was stable at 100 mA cm−2 after 50 h. Abstract

Herein, we report a pulse potential electrodeposition method (PPE) as a fast and one-step route for the production of effective and binder-free Ni–Se catalysts for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) in alkaline solution. The results demonstrated that the fabricated electrocatalysts by PPE show more desirable electrocatalytic performance than constant potential electrodeposition method (CPE). The electrodeposited NiSe nanostructures with large electrochemically active surface area of 2965?on the nickel foam (NF) at the frequency of 0.01?Hz exhibited high electrocatalytic activity for HER and OER. It delivers the current density of 10?mA/cm2 at the overpotential of 65?mV for HER and 100?mA/cm2 at 306?mV fo

Abstract

In the present study, the combined action of l-cysteine and l-histidine on the corrosion behavior of AA2024-T3 was studied. The inhibitive behavior of the organic l-cysteine?+?L-histidine system (CH-System) was evaluated by electrochemical tests and surface analyses. The polarization results indicated a 400?mV increase and 380?mV decrease in the pitting and corrosion potentials after 4?h of exposure, respectively. Also, the results of electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) showed a considerable increase in the impedance of AA2024-T3 samples in the presence of CH-System related to l-cysteine and l-histidine alone. In addition, the surface studies were carried out to investigate the chemical composition of surface products. The obtained

Abstract

In this work, sodium diethyldithiocarbamate (DDTC) was used as a novel corrosion inhibitor for AA2024-T3. For this purpose, the inhibition behavior of the DDTC was assessed by employing electrochemical tests and surface analysis. The electrochemical results indicated that DDTC acts as an effective corrosion inhibitor, and precipitation of a thin organic film on the AA2024-T3 surface is the main reason preventing the pitting corrosion of the samples. All of the electrochemical tests were proved by surface study analysis. The results of the SEM-EDS and ATR-FTIR studies showed the thin organic film formation on the aluminum alloy in the presence of DDTC.

Abstract

In the present study, the synergistic behavior of sodium lignosulfonate-zinc acetate (SLZA) system and its consequent effect on the corrosion prevention of mild steel in the 3.5 wt% NaCl electrolyte was studied. The electrochemical and surface analyses were carried out to understand the actual corrosion inhibition action of the SLZA system. The results of electrochemical studies showed that the uniform corrosion of mild steel was synergistically suppressed due to the co-inhibition of sodium lignosulfonate (SL) and zinc acetate (ZA). The synergism parameter was about 9 and the total resistance of mild steel was >400 kΩ.cm2 in the co-presence of SL and ZA. Also, the calculated inhibition efficiency of SLZA system was about 96%. Abstract

Metals' surface treatment by chemical conversion coatings (CCs) is one of the most promising methods for improving the organic coatings adhesion strength as well as the corrosion protection properties on the metal substances. Since most of the recently used conventional CCs, i.e., chromate/phosphate-based ones, have undesired environmental problems; nowadays, several non-hazardous chemical treatment solutions based on the rare earth metals (REM), such as Sm-CC, are applied to improve the EC/steel substrate interfacial adhesion level and corrosion resistance of the organic coatings. Despite the eco-friendly nature of the REM-based CCs, they cannot provide high corrosion resistance due to some structural problems. Therefore, finding appropria

Abstract

In recent years, the nanocomposite films have been utilized for the metals' corrosion resistance enhancement. In this research, an eco-friendly samarium (III) and bio-compatible polyodopamine-based biopolymer have been applied to mitigate the corrosion of steel through the construction of a hybrid film with effective anti-corrosion potency. For this purpose, the PDA micro/nano-particles were synthesized via two well-known self-polymerization and oxidant-facilitated methods. Then, they were introduced into the Sm (III)-based chemical modification bath, and the resulting solutions were sprayed on the steel surface continuously. The steel panels coated with samarium-oxide nanofilm, as well as the Sm-PDA composite coating, have shown excellent

Abstract

HypothesisThe application of various hydrophobic/superhydrophobic coatings on the surface of metals has become the hot topic of the recent studies. The corrosion protection effectiveness and environmental issues are two important factors that should be taken into consideration when developing advanced surface coatings. Recently, the rare-earth elements (i.e., samarium) and biopolymers (i.e., polydopamine) have attracted much attention in the metals' corrosion control field.ExperimentsThe Sm(NO3)3 containing solution was sprayed to the steel (St-12) sheets. Then, the Sm-modified plates were post-modified by polydopamine biopolymers that were synthesized by the self-polymerization (using tris (hydroxymethyl) aminomethane as a buffer), and oxi

Abstract

Nowadays, layered double hydroxide conversion coatings are a potential eco-friendly alternative for hazardous and carcinogenic chromate conversion coatings. In this work, Zn-Al LDH conversion coating (LDH−CC) modified with diethyldithiocarbamate (DEDTC) molecules, as a smart inhibitive film, was synthesized on AA2024-T3. For this purpose, the LDH−CC was prepared on the AA2024-T3 by an in-situ hydrothermal route, and then intercalated with DEDTC molecules through an anion-exchange procedure. The intercalation of the DEDTC into the structure of the LDH−CC was studied using XPS, XRD, ATR-FTIR, SEM-EDS, and TGA techniques. All of the characterization techniques proved the successful intercalation of the DEDTC molecules in the structure of
