    Abstract

Background and Objective: The use of groundwater resources for agricultural purposes has led to an excessive withdrawal of aquifers and a reduction in groundwater levels in Iran. This issue has increased the salinity and has seriously threatened the agricultural production farms. Therefore, it is important to measure the cost of pollution caused by the production of different products and determine their shadow value. For this purpose, the shadow price of groundwater salinity in different provinces has been estimated during the period of 1964-1999.Method: In this study, directional output distance function in the quadratic form was used to determine the environmental efficiency and shadow price of groundwater salinity.Findings: The technica

    Abstract

Climate change, in addition to reducing rainfall and increasing temperature, has led to a decline in water quality and increased groundwater salinity in Iran. These factors have a negative effect on crop yields. Therefore, the assessment of the effects of climate change and groundwater salinity on agricultural production is necessary. Hence, the object of this study was to investigate the effects of temperature, precipitation and groundwater salinity changes on farmer’s income risk, water shadow price and economic, social and environmental indicators in Qazvin region. To this purpose, the sensitivity of crop yield to temperature, precipitation and groundwater salinity was estimated by using Response-Yield function and General Maximum Entr

    Abstract

Water is the most important input used in agriculture. Due to the scarce water resources and dry and semi-arid climatic conditions of Iran, water demand management has special importance in the whole economy, including the agricultural sector, because this sector has the largest share in water consumption. The purpose of this study was to estimate the water demand function and to analyze the cross and symmetrical relationships between water and other inputs. For this purpose, the Ordinary, Allen, and Morishima's substitution elasticity were calculated, and the substitution and complementary relationship between water and other inputs were determined. These elasticities determine the amount and sign of cross relationship of water. In order t

    Abstract

In recent years, with droughts and declining irrigation water, efficient use of water and water management has become inevitable. For this purpose, in this study, the risk effects of irrigation strategy in Qazvin plain in the 2015-2016 were analyzed. Initially, the percentage change in water quantity was calculated during the drought period. Then, using water-yield functions, deficit irrigation was applied to plants in four scenarios of 19, 32, 44 and 51% corresponding to the periods of weak, medium, severe and very severe droughts. Then, using the TM-PMP model, the risk effects of drought were investigated on the cropping pattern and water consumption productivity. The results showed that deficit irrigation increased the area under crops o

    Abstract

The industrial sector in Qazvin province has a great importance, which has a relatively high share in value added and employment. Therefore, development of this sector is one of the economic goals. The development of the industrial sector requires the consumption of more factors of production. One of the most important inputs used in this section is water. Due to the limited water resources of the province, water demand management in this sector is especially important. One of the most effective tools to reduce water consumption is the use of new methods and technologies for saving water consumption. Therefore, the water demand function in the industrial sector was estimated using the data of ISIC codes and time series (2010-2014) firstly,

    Abstract

Water supply and demand policies have associated with different implications for sustainable groundwater management. These policies are adopted aimed to improve the welfare of the water beneficiaries. Accordingly, this study has analyzed the effects of improvement on the irrigation systems efficiency and the internalization of external effects of groundwater extraction in a dynamic market framework in Qazvin plain. For this purpose, firstly water supply and demand functions are estimated, and the effects of applying two different scenarios have been evaluated using the dynamic programming model. The Spatial Lag model has been used to estimate the groundwater extraction function and internalization of external effects of groundwater extracti

Economic Effects of Environmental Pollution Tax on the Wheat Market

    Abstract

Control of environmental impacts which remain from agricultural activities is always a concern for communities. In Iran, wheat transportation takes place on roads that are dependent on fossil fuels and results in the release of a large amount of carbon dioxide. Accordingly, applying control policies for internalization of the external effects of releasing these pollutants seems necessary. One way to control this type of pollution is the use of tax instruments. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate the economic effects of pollution tax on wheat market actors. This tax is proportional to the shadow value of pollution that happens due to energy consumption in the distribution sector. For this purpose, a Dynamic Spatial Equilibrium M

    Abstract

Climate change is one of the natural occurrences that cause temperature rise, reduced rainfalls, change in water balance, decline in production level, and frequent droughts. Therefore, predicting and evaluating the effects of climate change and drought could be very effective for future decision making. According to this approach, in this study, the effects of climate change and drought on cropping pattern and income risk effects in Qazvin plain were investigated. The LARS-WG model was used to simulate climate variables (temperature and precipitation) in the future, as well as their changes in the A1B, A2 and B1 climate scenarios. Also, the Standard Precipitation Index (SPI) was used to determine drought periods and water volume changes. Th

    Abstract

Introduction: Today, governments have to adopt different policies to offset water scarcity and balance groundwater resources. Among the policies that have been emphasized in this regard, are subsidies and incentive payments to use modern irrigation technology. In Iran, the policy of grants for under pressure irrigation systems is mentioned in the budget law of the country. It is generally believed that the implementation of this policy can save water and would lead to the conservation of groundwater resources. But, in practice this issue has not yet been proven. Abstract

In recent years, the Dehgolan plain has been faced by a sharp drop in groundwater and land subsidence due to the drought and over-harvesting of water resources. Hence, one of the most important water management practices is management of cultivating pattern that has more importance in drought situations in order to reduce water super-crisis. This plain with an area of 62.4 thousand hectares and the coordinates of 10' 470 to 44' 480 eastern longitudes and 00' 350 to 32' 350 northern Latitudes is at the eastern of Kurdistan province. This research was designed to develop an optimal cropping pattern (wheat, barley, alfalfa, onion, potato, clover and sainfoin) for under low water conditions. Moreover, this paper presented an optimal irrigation

    Abstract

Groundwater provides a lot of services to the environment as one of the components of the ecosystem, but its over drafting has led to a lot of environmental damage. Estimating the economic value of these damages is one of the important issues in the environmental economics. Accordingly, the purpose of this study was to evaluate the economic value of environmental damages to the landscape, nature, biodiversity and habitat of wildlife (natural ecosystem) in Qazvin plain. Given the lack of real market for environmental goods and services, the stated preference method and choice experiment was used to determine the value of the external effects of groundwater shortage. The conditional and nested logic model has been used to achieve

    Abstract

Sustainable food security is one of the policy-making targets in Iran, but water scarcity has always been a challenge to its actualization. Regarding this point, offering policies to address this challenge is essential. On the other hand, wheat is the most important commodity in the food baskets of Iranians, and due to the lack of equality in the supply and demand among the regions, a large amount of wheat is displaced every year. The displacement of wheat has resulted in virtual water trade among the regions and could be a possible solution to manage the water crisis in Iran. With respect to the necessity of research, the present study investigated the effects of economic policies on virtual water trade for wheat using a spati
