- In the event of an emergency, inform others and dial the emergency
numbers.
- Be familiar with the emergency evacuation plan.
- Be sure the names and phone numbers of lab or security personnel to be
contacted in an emergency are placed in the lab.
- If volatile, flammable or toxic materials spill, shut off flames and
spark-producing equipment immediately and evacuate the lab.
- Be familiar with the location, use and limitations of the following
safety devices:
- safety shower
- protective respiratory gear
- fire extinguisher
- spill cleanup materials
- eye wash station
- fume hood
- fire alarm
- first aid kit
- Do not cover lab windows or door windows, except for special
experimental requirements. This allows people to notice if anyone is in need
of emergency assistance.
- Clean up all small spills immediately.
- If a large chemical spill occurs, contact the university emergency phone
number.
- If the spill poses a hazard to individuals outside of the lab, follow
the labs emergency standard operating procedure.
In the event of fire or explosion:
- DO NOT PANIC
- Activate the building fire alarm
- Exit the building
- Call the emergency number to report the emergency
- Standby in a safe location
