TMU's Painting Department was founded in the early years after the victory of the Islamic Revolution with the aim of educating faculty members for Iranian universities. This department was the first department in higher education system of Iran which established a masters degree in painting. The mission was to create an atmosphere suitable for the growth and development of students' artistic creativity. The teaching staff not only strive to educate the students to achieve new styles with the Islamic identity of Iran, they also pay special attention to the problem of expressing content and creating a meaningful relationship with the audience. Most graduates of this department now serve as faculty members or are engaged in executive and managerial positions at universities and art centers throughout the country, while some others act as professional painters in Iran's artistic community.
