Hydro Engineering

Department of Water Engineering of Tarbiat Modares University, which was established in 1992 started master programs in that year and has been offering Ph.D. program since 1996. Also, since 2014, this department has offered water resources engineering and management firstly in master and then Ph.D. level. Making use of its competent faculty members, this department has provided courses in the field of river engineering, hydraulic structures, hydropower plants, numerical and physical models, isotope hydrology, hydrodynamics, surface and underground water resources management, and water quality management and environmental currents. Several inventions have also been registered by the teaching staff of this department during its activity.
In order to make the optimal use of the scientific capacity of professors and graduates in solving the problems of the countrys water industry, in 2003 the Water Engineering Research Institute was officially launched.
This research center has a laboratory network including the Hydraulic Lab, Coastal Laboratories, Marine Structures and Water Engineering. Based on national needs for specialized water engineering activities, this department considers its main missions to be involved in basic and applied research activities in the form of guiding masters dissertations and doctoral theses, as well as conducting research projects. The Department of Water Engineering, with its prominent faculty members and committed graduates and necessary research infrastructure, is committed to managing its multifaceted and complex challenges in supplying, transferring, saving and managing water resources at the national and regional levels.
The key objectives of the Water Engineering Department include:

Teaching and educating students to provide dedicated professionals in graduate and doctoral levels
Development of hardware and software facilities in the field of water engineering and water resources management
Performing applied research on droughts and water scarcity
Providing specialized services to other educational, research and industrial institutes
Providing appropriate background for interagency and research centers cooperation
Establishing a relationship between industry and university by carrying out projects and holding workshops at different levels
Promoting public awareness on water related topics
Publishing articles, reports and scientific books

Outlook

During its more than two decades of activity, Water Engineering Department of TMU has made significant achievements which enable it to play an effective role in an era in which the breadth and intensity of the challenges associated with water resources is increasing. In this regard, improving and enhancing the current level of water governance and water policy in the country and providing effective solutions for better and more sustainable management of Irans limited water resources constitute the perspective of this department.
