The Petroleum Engineering and Reservoir Modeling Lab (PERMlab) is the research group of Dr Sadeghnejad. The focus of this group is on implementing novel methods in the upstream of oil and gas as tools to better understand the behavior of carbonate reservoirs. More than 60% of the world’s oil and 40% of the world’s gas reserves are located in carbonate reservoirs. Carbonate rocks have often a complicated flow behavior due to their complex pore-structure. Predicting the properties of these reservoirs is a challenging task due to their heterogeneous structure. Identifying and characterizing the production performance of these formations will result in increasing the amount of crude oil that can be extracted from them.

The two main research aspects of our lab on carbonate formations are:

  • Reservoir formation characterization using novel methods
  • Enhanced oil recovery using advanced polymer flooding methods
