Corrosion and protection of materials

Corrosion is a significant threat to the reliability and sustainability of materials. Corrosion costs around 4% of GNP. Corrosion Science and engineering are key to the conservation of materials and the development of new materials and innovation production processes for use in industries.
The unique nature of corrosion and the interdisciplinary fields of corrosion science and engineering embrace most areas of technology. Corrosion affects all areas of engineering materials including high strength, high temperature and lightweight materials. Surface analysis and engineering are crucial to corrosion understanding and prevention.
Corrosion is widespread but is of special importance in the oil and chemical, the transport, the marine, the building and construction, the power generation industries. Control of corrosion is of critical importance to society today which Places a high Priority on conservation of resources and Protection of the environment. The key to reducing the cost of corrosion lies in more education and research in corrosion and protection.
The corrosion and protection group was established in 1990. The major activities of the group are teaching and research in corrosion and its control. It is a full postgraduate academic group, with four full-time academic staff, and a total of around 30 Persons studying or working in various aspects of corrosion science and engineering in the group. The group has four modern laboratories and is well equipped for research with a variety of electrochemical and various other techniques and facilities
