Research Interests                                                                       
The research projects in our lab currently focus on two following fields:
1)QSPR and QSAR
We are trying to establish new models to find the relationship between the functions or properties of proteins as well as small molecules and their structural information. Such researches are commonly named as QSAR (Quantitative Structure-Activity Relationship) and QSPR (Quantitative Structure-Property Relationship). These models are commonly based on the algorithmic methods (i.e. linear and non-linear regression analysis, principal component analysis, discriminate analysis…), non-algorithmic methods (i.e. artificial neural networks, genetic algorithms…) and the hybrid methods.
In hybrid models we combine the potential benefits of both methods to improve the performance of the whole system for different biological applications such as protein structural classification, prediction of other protein properties and prediction of interactions between small compounds and proteins.
The algorithmic methods are mostly utilized to generate and also select and optimize the most effective protein features -from the amino acid sequences to the more complex structural properties. Through the procedure of feature optimization, we evaluate the importance of each generated structural parameter in prediction or classification, and then select the most important ones. The non-algorithmic methods, such as genetic algorithms and artificial neural networks are similarly used for both purposes of feature selection and prediction.
The resulting prediction models can be used as helpful means in the procedure of protein and drug design.

2) BioElectromagnetic
We are currently working on this uprising issue to find the response of the biological systems when exposed to the static magnetic fields (SMF) as well as electromagnetic fields (EMF). We are interested to measure the changes in enzyme activity, cell growth and death, gene expression and membrane structure and function, followed by the exposure of biological systems to the SMF or EMF.
