I was born in Iran and grew up in Freydonkenar. I attended Arak University, where I received a B.Sc. degree in Applied Chemistry. I then attended the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Sharoud, where I obtained my MSc in 1999. I worked at Oil & Gas Company, Ltd, Iran, Piping & Design Engineer, Attach to Gas Piping Design and Qualification Department for a few years. I then attended the Department of Chemical Engineering at the Universiti Sains Malaysia, where I received my PhD in 2005. My thesis is titled "Biohydrogen and bioethanol production from synthesis gas via fermentation with Rhodospirillum rubrum and Clostridium ljungdahlii", and my supervisor was Prof. Dr. Ghasem Najafpour.

My research interests cover a range of topics in heavy metal removal from aqueous solution, Chemicals and Fuels Production from Synthesis gas, and Wastewater Treatment with Various Type of Bioreactor. Specific interests include Biosorption of Heavy Metal from Wastewater Stream, VOCs Removal from Air Pollutants, Bioplastic and biopolymer Production, and Adsorption of Heavy Metals using functionalized mesoporous silica.
