Design, construction and evaluation of ultrasound desalination device in TMU

Researchers at the Bio System Mechanical Engineering Department have succeeded in designing an ultrasonic desalination device. The economic analysis shows that the operating and energy costs of this system are lower than prevalent methods of water treatment and desalination.

This project has been conducted in the form of Mr. Behnam Hosseingholi's master thesis in mechanical engineering Bio-systems field, in this regard, he said: Desalination is an old process for human access to water, and so far, various desalting systems have been developed, each with particular advantages and disadvantages of their own.

He added: using ultrasonic waves is one of the new methods to improve the processes of water treatment and sea desalination. In this study, ultrasonic desalting device was designed, constructed and evaluated. In this system, salt water is initially atomized and then evaporates in contact with the hot air mass. The salinity of the produced water, the cold evaporation (atomization) amount of input water and the amount of water produced by the device were measured and evaluated. Also, the economic analysis of this system was verified which the operating and energy costs were lower than conventional RO and MSF methods.

This research was conducted with the spervision of Dr. Ahmad Banakar, an agriculture faculty's member.
