About the library
Established in 1983 with the basic collection of about 1500 Persian and non Persian books in an area of 158 m 2.The Central Library of TARBIAT MODARES UNIVERSITY (TMU) began its educational and research activities at six.
Postgraduate levels. At-present. Enjoying 50 expert personnel in different fields, in an area of 2240 m 2. All scientific sources are delivered to the students, members of faculty and other researchers. Its new six stores building with the area of 4000m2 is under construction.
Of the great successes of the central library are designing and applying of the ISO 9002 quality in all its departments. The main features of this system are user orientation and fulfilling the needs of users.
Accordingly and due to the very quick development of the Central Library as well as the need to the use of a qualitative standard system to give “The most services, In a Least Time, to The Most Users”, the ISO 9002 standard system was established in the Central Library. Therefore all ongoing processes and activities at the Central Library have been compiled in a set of 25 volumes. Hence, The Central Library of TMU is the first academic library throughout the Islamic Republic of Iran that its activities and services are in accordance with the international quality standards. The main characteristics of this new system are comprehensiveness and futurism, so that all other universities will be able to apply it in their library systems.
Electronic retrieval of all Persian and non-Persian sources is among the other activities of the Central Library which provides the possibility of getting the desired information through the internet. (www.modares.ac.ir/library)
One may reserve, extend or order her/his needed books through The Central Library’s E-mail. There is also on electronic newsletter, containing the latest research information updated each week.

This department consists of two subgroups of ordering Persian and non Persian sources, which is responsible for providing the different information sources including books, journals, databases through purchase, loan and donation.
Selection of desired information resources are carried out the Resource Selective Committee.
Measures needed for ordering and purchasing the desired books and journals throughout the year, providing the names, postal and electronic addresses of the domestic and foreign publishers, announcing the costs of information sources, helping the members of faculty on their membership in the international scientific and professional assemblies and conferences are among the main duties of this department.
The main tasks and services of this section are collection, provision, retrieval and delivery of the papers and articles from the journals, conferences and theses/dissertations to the students and members of faculty of TARBIAT MODARES UNIVERSITY as well as fulfilling the information needs of the legal and real entities of the other universities and research institutes. To date, this section has done well its career in providing and delivering the desired information sources of the students and members of the faculty within the UNIVERSITY through the domestic and/or international information centers/agents. In addition, the DSS group has been also responsible for the "AMEEN Interlibrary Project" in TARBIAT MODARES UNIVERSITY in the recent years.
Cataloguing and Classification of Persian and non Persian books according to L.C. classification, indexing the theses/dissertations of all graduate students and research projects in all educational groups, preparing and filing the classified sources are among the tasks of this group. It also has online internet access to the national bibliography database of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Library of Congress (L.C.)
This department consists of different sections responsible for delivering library services including books, theses/dissertations, Persian and non-Persian journals, documents and Latin papers to the users as follow:
D-1 Circulation Section
Circulation section is a place to hold and loan the books and other related information sources to the member users. Besides the services like admission, loan, reserve, services and etc, it is also responsible for the interlibrary loan system called” GHADIR Project TARBIAT MODARES UNIVERSITY. Members of faculty and students, upon membership in the GHADIR can use the different services of the member libraries including their loan services. In addition, The Central Library of TARBIAT MODARES UNITERSITY, compiling a new rule, has paved the way to the membership of all legal and real entities in order to be able to use the Library services.
The circulation section contains more than 150,000 Persian and non- Persian books.
D-2 Journals Section
This section consists of two separate divisions of Persian and non-Persian journals. Both member and non-member users may study the desired journals or make copy from the papers and articles.
Since the current Latin journals are classified in accordance with the L.C. classification system, users can easily be aware and informed of the journals with similar topics. All current and archive Persian journals are classified alphabetically. Also, full-text Iranian Persian journals and newspapers are accessible through the Iranian Persian article database named "NAMAYEH".
The users also can take print from the retrieved papers.
The total number of the current Persian and non Persian journals in this section accounts for about 1400-1500 titles, and the number of the archived journals are more than 20,000 copies since 1985.
D-3 Reference Section
The reference sources consist of Dictionaries, Encyclopedias, Handbooks, Guidebooks etc., as well as academic thesis/dissertation, proceedings of the scientific and research conferences or seminars, organizational reports and Latin papers. It is to be noted that Selective Disseminated Information services of the existing sources as well as the thesis/dissertations, seminars and research projects throughout the country along with reprography services are available in the reference section according the license. There are more than 20,000 Persian and non-Persian books, as well as 13774 thesis/dissertations.
Collecting and delivering of database services in different fields of science and technology as well as establishing direct online and/or offline connection with the desired databases are among the main responsibilities of this department. At present there is direct and online access to more than 16 important databases including Science Direct. In addition, the Central Library, equipped with a very high speed (2mbs) special telecommunication line (Leased) and 40 work stations and also using the internet line, enjoys the best and strongest accessible electronic information sources throughout the country.
It must be noted that the equipments and computer possibilities of this department are the best among the universities of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The main task of this department is to apply the most improved technologies on research and education in order to provide and produce audio-visual programs with the aim of improving the research and educational skills of the users.
The department of audio- visual services consists of four separate sections as follows:
F-1 Provision and Production:
The main tasks of this section are: provision of research and educational CDs and films from the scientific assemblies held by TARBIAT MODARES UNIVERSITY; reproduction, replication and inversion of different digital and non digital audio- visual and multimedia products on research and educational topics, loan services of the educational audio visual equipments for the purposes of research and educational programs and/or assemblies held by TARBIAT MODARES UNIVERSITY as well as training and consulting services on the related fields.
F-2 Photography Section:
Provision and production of research and educational slides from the electronic images, tables, print images, Photography of slides and pictures and radiology Photos, replication Loan services of the research and educational slides, providing color copies from the information of the library and scanning the photos/pictures are among the major responsibilities of the photography section.
F-3 Audio Section:
Delivering audio services to the users including the reproduction of educational audiocassettes and scientific lectures, loaning the mentioned audiocassettes, training and consulting services are of the main tasks of this section.
The main tasks of this department are supporting library software, hardware and network.
Working Hours: Saturday-Wednesday: 7/30 a.m. - 20 p.m. ; Thursday: 8 a.m. - 13 p.m.
