Instruction for Authors
The "Modares Journal of Medical Sciences" is the scientific quarterly publication of the School of Medical Sciences, Tarbiat Modares University. The Journal acceptes Orginal Papers, Review Articles, Short Communications and Letters to the Editor in the fields of Basic Medical Sciences with emphasis on Pathobiology.
The authors wishing to submit their paper to this journal are expected to follow the guidelines for manuscript preparation as below:
1. The official language of the journal is Persian (Farsi).
2. Submitted paper must be research-based carried out by the author(s), and must not have been published or submitted to other journals simultaneously.
3. Papers accepted for publication by this journal are divided into two categories:
A. Original full research papers: scientific-research papers with at least 3500 words (or equivalent to this volume).
B. Research short communications: scientific-research papers with maximum 3500 words (or equivalent to this volume).
Note: A few “case-reports” will also be accepted and published in each issue. Review articles from experienced authors with a good knowledge and well know reputation in a specific field of study and having a considerable number of publications in that field will also be considered.
4. Submitted papers must include the following sections:
A. First (cover) page: The complete title of the paper (maximum 10 words), full name(s) of the author(s) (the corresponding author’s name must be indicated with a superscripted astrix), the last academic degree, scientific position, and affiliated institution of the author(s), the complete address of corresponding author including: mailing address, telephone and e-mail address. This information must be provided in Persian and English both. A statement of acknowledgement for the institution supported the research or paper also be included.
B. Second page: Complete title of the paper in Persian, Persian abstract (maximum 250 words), Persian keywords (maximum 5 words), Complete title of the paper in English, English abstract (maximum 250 words), and English keywords (maximum 5 words). Abstracts must be comprised of four separate section of the “Purpose of the study”, “Materials and Methods”, “Results” and “Conclusion”.
C. Other (consequent) pages must include: introduction, main body of the paper (comprising material(s) and method(s), results, discussion, and conclusion); appendix(es), references, English jargons, expressions, pictures, figures and tables (everyone in a separate page).
Note 1: The exact place of photographs(s), table(s), figure(s) and diagram(s) must be indicated appropriately (by citing their number(s) inside angle brackets in a separate line) in the body of the text of the paper. Pictures should be in Jpeg format with resolution of 300 dpi or 300 PPI and if possible with colors intensity of 16 M or 24 bit.
Note 2: The number and direction of the photograph(s), figure(s), and diagram(s) must be written on their other side. The description of the photograph(s)/figure(s) must be printed on a separate page. Tables must be accompanied by a complete title and appropriate footnotes if required. Word(s) and number(s) should be written in persian. Tables should be arranged from right to left.
Not 3: Exact, clear, and common equivalent Persian word(s) of English jargon(s) (expression(s), abbreviation(s), technical word(s) must be used as much as possible, and the original English jargon(s) and complete expression of abbreviation(s) and acronym(s) mentioned in the body of the text must be shown in the bracket.
Note 4: References must be cited by consecutive number inside angle brackets in the body of the paper.
5. Details of references must be mentioned using the following format in the reference section:
1st. Books: Family name(s) and initials name(s) of authors(s). title of the book. family name(s) and initials name(s) of the translator(s) (if required); edition number, place of publishing, publisher name, year of publishing; page numbers.
Example: Lengeler JW, Drews G, Schlegel HG. Biology of the Prokarytes. 1st ed., Germany, Blackwell sciences Ltd, 1999; p: 355-6.
2nd. Papers: family name(s) and initials name(s) of the author(s). “title of the paper”; name (abbreviated based on the Index Medicus) of the journal year of publishing; volume (issue) number: page numbers.
Example: Shin JH, Roe IH, Kim HG. Production of anti-Helicobacter pylori userse-specific immunoglobulin in egg yolk using an antigenic epitope of H. pylori userse. J Med Microbiol 2004; 53(1): 31-4.
6. Papers must be written with a margin of 1.5 cm on each side, in double space, preferably with Lotus font size 12 (for Persian writing) and Times font size 10 (for Latin writing) using Microsoft Word(TM) software. Page number should be written in the middle bottom of each page.

7. Papers sould be submitted electronically to http://mjms.hbi.ir/ or via mjms@modares.ac.ir only with a cover letter from the corresponding auther.
8. Papers must not be more than 20 pages, including table(s), graph(s), and photograph(s).
9. Informed consent must be obtained from all human participants. The anonimity of patient(s) and confidentiality of medical records must be considered by the author(s) of papers. The eyes and any other remark(s) of patient(s) helping to recognize them must be covered if recessary. One copy of approval letter from Medical Ethics Commettie (human subjects and laboratory animals) of the institute should be included with the manuscript.
10. Authors must acknowledge and declare any sources of funding and potential conflicting interest, such as receiving funds or fees by, or holding stocks and shares in, an organization that may profit or lose through publication of your paper. Declaring a competing interest will not lead to automatic rejection of the paper, but we would like to be made aware of it.
11. Paper accepted for publication will be sent to the corresponding authors for final approval and The author(s) are themselves responsible for the correctness and fallacy of the contents of their paper.
12. All manuscripts will be peer reviewed by at least 3 reviewers and should be approved by the Editorial Board. Acceptance or rejection, editing, and making changes in the text or format of the paper(s) is at the discretion of the Editorial Board of the MJMS.
13. After the publication of the article one copy of the journal will be presented to each auther.
14. After the publication of each issue, 5 reprint copies of each published paper will be presented to the corresponding author of that paper.
15. Citing and republishing of the contents of this journal allowed subject to the approval of the editor-in-chief of the MJMS.
