Water Engineering Research Center affiliated to Tarbiat Modares University has been established in 2003 to form an inter-disciplinary and scientific-research forum in water engineering field.
The main activities of the center are as follows:
- Studying, identifying and solving the problems and challenges of the country's research needs.
- Conducting fundamental and applied research.
- Identifying and introducing the new technologies in different water engineering fields.
- Development of technical softwares.
- Technical and scientific consulting services.
- Conducting necessary activities to use the results of research and investigations.
- Active relationship with other national and international institutes and organizations.
- Publishing scientific results.
- Holding seminars, workshops and technical training courses.
Fields of activities WERC provides services and is able to conduct research in the following fields: Hydraulics, sedimentation, flood engineering, river engineering, hydraulic modeling, sea hydraulic, shore engineering, hydraulic structures, water resources engineering and management, soil and water conservation, irrigation and drainage systems, surface water hydrology, environmental engineering, hydroinformatic, application of geographic information system (GIS) and remote sensing (RS) in water engineering
Four research departments have been established within Water Engineering Research Center in order to do the above tasks as follows:
- Hydraulics
- Hydroinformatics
- Environmental aspects of hydraulics
- Water resources
