Overview
The French teaching department has been established at Tarbiat modares University in 1988. Among all the state's universities in Iran, this is the only one which has a French teaching department. Other French departments in Iranian universities are involved in French literature. The scientific activities of the department cover specifically four areas: language teaching, linguistics, translation and discourse analysis. The department has started its serious activity in 1996 when its four members started working there fulltime. We can summarize the activities as follows:
- Publication of many manuals at S.A.M.T organization.
- Holding different international seminars on language studies.
- Holding several language teaching workshops carried out by Iranian and French professors.
- Development of the department's library.
Production and execution of theatrical plays in French language aiming to orient students to make use of the language in its various registers and to develop multiple skills.
At the present the director of French Language group is Dr. Hamidreza Shairi .
