Geography and Urban Planning


 

Geography can contribute to spatial planning because it has a development-oriented nature and focuses on the spatial organization of the environment from various aspects of urban and rural planning, climatology and geomorphology in environmental planning and applied remote sensing, The geography department pursues fundamental and applied research projects, with the aim of helping human welfare, safety and security in urban and rural environments, and balancing the relationship between man and the environment. The goal of graduate studies in geography and rural planning, geography and urban planning concerns the flourishing and education of graduates with relevant research abilities. Department of geography of Tarbiat Modares University which was founded in 1987 initially began its graduate program in geography and urban planning, and later, it expanded its scientific activities at Ph.D. level. In the following years, the Department began offering fields of study like geography and rural planning, geomorphology, climatology and remote sensing and geographic information systems (GIS), and in 2012, it managed to obtain the initial approval for the establishment of 'land-use planning'. Currently, the department pursues several objectives including expansion of current fields of studies, establishing new fields of studies, recruitment of new faculty members etc.
