Using geographic information systems (GIS) widely for dealing with transportation problems (is well-known as GIS-T), has made it nessasary for researchers to discover the current state-of-the-art and predict the trends of future research. This paper aims to contribute to a better understanding of GIS-T research area from a longitudinal perspective, over the period 2008–2019. A co-word analysis was used to illustrate all the underlying subfields of GIS-T based on published papers in the Web of Science (WoS) database service. The main knowledge areas representing the intellectual structure of GIS-T including (a) sustainability,(b) health,(c) planning and management, and (d) methods and tools, were detected. Finally, in order to illustrate t
This paper aims to assess five urban transportation pricing policies (including petrol price, parking fee, taxi fare, bus fare, and metro fare). Using stated preference panel data, we estimate a mixed logit (ML) model and a latent class (LC) model, which account for individual unobserved heterogeneity. The estimated policy implications resulting from these models are compared to get a deeper understanding of the differences in policy recommendations when using different treatments of unobserved heterogeneity. In this regard, we focus on two criteria, which are the changes in mode share and the changes in expected consumer surplus in response to the changes in the level of pricing policies. Results by both ML and LC models reveal that in som
There is a relationship between choosing an activity and duration of that activity, especially for non-mandatory ones. Some previous studies have analyzed the decisions about an activity type and duration independently, though some others have used joint models. This paper contributes to the body of knowledge through using Nested-logit and Copula-based models for assessing the existence of interdependency or a hierarchy between non-mandatory activity choice and the relative duration. In the Nested-logit model, it is assumed that error terms of these decisions are interrelated, though one is influenced by another. In contrast, the Copula-based model can accommodate spatial error correlation across observational units without imposing a restr
Intersections are one of the elements that play an important role in urban networks. Analysis of drivers’ performance at unsignalised intersections is crucial, especially in left-turning movements due to their several inherent conflicts and variety of drivers’ maneuver types which affect traffic safety and capacity at such intersections, so the purpose of this paper is to introduce how the behaviour of drivers will be specified in left-turning at unsignalized intersection. For this study, traffic data were collected using a fixed digital camera. First, the vehicle speed profiles are categorized into descending-ascending slope (type (A)), the smooth descending-ascending slope (type (B)) and ascending slope (type (C)).The effects of the i
The main role of feeder in urban networks is to increase the coverage of rapid public transportation systems such as subway and bus rapid transit. The high complexity of the exact methods of designing feeder networks motivates researchers to apply heuristic and meta-heuristic methods to find approximate solution of feeder network design. This paper presents an innovative approach to design of feeder network for a subway line using a two-stage heuristic method. The proposed method has been applied in Sioux Falls as a test network which is often used in transit network design. According to the proposed method, at the first stage, a number of primary routes are generated as initial solutions; then these routes are screened according to a set o
These days, emergency request responding in a short time is a highly challenging issue. The main goal of current research is modeling an optimization problem for emergency vehicle routing on small and medium-sized networks and solving the problem by a novice algorithm. The suggested algorithm inputs are the network, location and number of requests, vehicles, and hospitals. The objective is to minimize total travel time of vehicles plus the time that the last request is responded completely. The algorithm output is the vehicle and hospital assignment to each request and requests' responding order on the network. After developing the mathematical model of the problem, 138 random samples are produced on a network with 7 nodes and 16 links. The
In recent decades، increasing urban population، urbanization development and the lack of public transportation in response to increasing demand for inter-city trips have led to an increase in the use of private cars in Tehran. Therefore، changes in urban transport policies and efforts to develop and improve public transportation، especially the bus، are one of the most important strategies in the urban transport planning and require the necessary surveys to have a growth in share of public transportation. Studies show that planning for the optimal use of bus infrastructure and the use of solutions to increase the efficiency of this system in the world، requires information on infrastructure and bus lines demand. Accordingly، it is ne
Mode and departure time choices are two effective decisions on the urban travel demand. Previous studies have different assumptions for modeling these decisions. Some studies assume that mode and departure time choices are independent and other studies consider nested logit as a joint structure. Comparison of joint and independent models shows that these decisions are interrelated. This paper uses a copula-based joint modeling framework to depict this interrelation. To achieve better fitted model several copula functions including product, AMH and Frank are used. For mode choice and departure time choice models, multinomial logit and bivariate logit models are used, respectively and finally, a BL-MNL joint model is used to create linkage be
Seyedehsan Seyedabrishami et al./Transportation Research Procedia 41 (2019) 572–576 573 2 Seyedabrishami, Seyedehsan et al./Transportation Research Procedia 00 (2016) 000–000 dependent variables (Graham and Glaister 2002). The shortcoming is that this design only considers the effect of one decision on another decisions and ignores the interactions between these decisions. Some other studies use nested logit methods, in which upper and lower levels of the model are attributed to each decision (Dissanayake and Morikawa 2010). This design does not represent well the simultaneous decision-making concept. A drawback of the nested logit structure is that the modeler needs to specify a nesting structure that dictates cross-elasticities betwee
This paper proposes a new local search algorithm for finding the optimal configuration of subroutes from a set of candidate transit routes in a transportation network. It is intended to maximize the transit ridership while holding the budget constraint. In each iteration of the algorithm, route segments that are likely to absorb more transit passengers are added to the configuration and less‐contributing segments are removed, instead. A path‐based model with elastic demand is applied for traffic assignment problem. The algorithm takes advantage of the equilibrium paths information to speed up the calculations for emerging configurations. A numerical experiment on Sioux‐Falls network indicates that the proposed algorithm can achieve h
In this paper by using the aggregate socioeconomic features of each zone and considering the land use prosperities, the aggregate zonal tours were modeled. For that, classic 4-step modeling database was utilized in which less data collection cost needs. Due heteroscedasticity, appling weighted least square (WLS) method led to multiple weighted regressions by two exogenous independent variables; population and number of employers in zone. Heteroscedasticity affect the efficiency of regression. In comparing of two model, the F test of WLS method growth 27 percent and the amount t students for population reduced from 2.79 to 2.27 that in negligible. On the other hand, the amount of t students for number of employers increases from 2.62 to 3.40
While a great deal of studies have been carried out on measuring the relative importance of different air itinerary and socio-economic attributes on itinerary demand prediction, no study have been carried out regarding the impact of other attributes such as hotel accommodation on air itinerary choice, especially in Iran. The primary focus of this study is to measure the impacts of hotel accommodation on air itinerary demand. In this respect, multinomial logit and mixed Multinomial logit models were estimated based on stated preference survey from Iranian passengers travelling from Tehran to Istanbul through Imam Khomeini airport. The results suggest that adding hotel to air itinerary can influence air itinerary choice and share. Furthermore
This paper deals with the surveillance camera location problem in an urban transportation network. In a bi-level model, it is intended to maximise route-flow observation in the upper-level problem, while simultaneously taking into account the drivers’ response to the position of cameras in the lower level. To solve the problem, a greedy solution algorithm is proposed that iteratively assigns the new surveillance camera to the link with maximum ‘net’ traffic flow, and updates the equilibrium traffic flows according to the drivers’ response. The proposed algorithm can be applied, in a heuristic approach, to the networks in which there are unique path-flow solutions for the majority of O–D pairs. Numerical experiments are conducted o
