Journal PaperSharif Journal of Civil Engineering , 2021 September 22, {Pages }

Abstract

Autonomous vehicles (AVs) provide safe and efficient transportation without human intervention through their sensors and communication technologies. The advent of such vehicles will lead to an unprecedented revolution in transportation if they are accepted and used by the people. Higher technology acceptance rates justify investment in the infrastructure required for the expansion of such technologies as well as their ultimate success since eliminating economic and technical obstacles while neglecting the human barrier of acceptance would be futile. Most researchers have employed the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) to investigate the latent variables affecting the acceptance of AVs. Although the theory incorporate

Abstract

This research investigates the role of socio-economic and attitude factors on taste variation of the elderly in mode choice, and its main sources. Based on a total of 524 questionnaires distributed among the elderly in thirteen districts of Mashhad, factor analysis is used to identifying attitude factors like environmental, safety, convenience, comfort, and flexibility. Mixed logit and latent class models are employed to test heterogeneity among the elderly and also to determine its possible sources. Results of MXL show that several socio-economic, travel mode attributes and attitude factors have a significant effect on the elderly mode choice, which car ownership of the elderly and travel time of walking are heterogeneous variables among p

Journal PaperInternational Journal of Transportation Engineering , 2021 January 10, {Pages }

Abstract

Although previous studies show that attitudes (personal preference) play an essential role in mode choice, few studies investigate the effect of heterogeneity of these factors in mode choice of grocery shopping. This research investigates the role of socioeconomic, built-environment, lifestyle, attitude, and behavioral variables on taste variation of individuals in mode choice of grocery shopping trips. 398 individuals are surveyed in chain grocery stores of Tehran in May 2016 and factor analysis is used to identify latent variable such as safety, pedestrian-oriented, mode flexibility. Furthermore, a mixed logit (MXL) model is employed to test heterogeneity among individuals. Results of MXL model show that several socioeconomic, mode attri

A fuzzy approach for designing of subway lines, case study: development of the Tehran subway network

Journal PaperAmirkabir Journal of Civil Engineering , 2021 January 18, {Pages }

Abstract

Subway network design can be classified as one of the most challenging problems in transportation planning, where different deterministic or non-deterministic approaches have been utilized for optimal design. Non-deterministic methods, having fewer limitations and representing reality with its intrinsic uncertainty, have thus been the focus of less research. This paper incorporates concepts of fuzzy set theory into optimal design of subway networks to the case of Tehran. Two binary mathematical programming models with different objective functions are developed. The first model maximizes the covered population while minimizing construction cost, whereas the second maximizes the ratio of the covered population to construction cost. These obj

Bicycle demand: a gender analysis for Tehran, Iran

Journal PaperInternational Journal of Transportation Engineering , 2020 March 10, {Pages }

Abstract

International studies on bicycle demand have shown that females and males can have different transportation behavior due to their innate differences, as in social responsibility and access to facilities. Considering the almost equal and significant share of females in urban trips, and also the cultural aspects, this issue is of even more importance in Tehran, which lacks detailed focused research studies. This paper aims to model bicycle demand for Tehran stressing on gender difference impacts. Regarding the scope of the research, a questionnaire field survey was designed to gather required data for modeling purposes. Using a random sample of Tehran citizens stratified by employment status, the field survey was conducted, in March 2013. Da

Heterogeneous analysis of mode choice behavior using latent class model

Journal PaperJournal of Transportation Research , 2020 October 4, {Pages }

Abstract

To reduce traffic in the central area of Tehran and thus reduce air pollution, a toll management plan is being implemented in this area of the city. In the present study, the mode choice within the congestion pricing scheme has been investigated with respect to the base hour scenarios. The statistical population consists of 1388 respondents who were provided for the analysis of the subject in question by answering to each of the three price scenarios of 4164 observations. In addition, a latent class model is used to investigate the heterogeneity in passenger behavior and the impact of price on mode choice. Based on the results of the latent class model, the sensitivity of different groups to the price is different, so that in the class with

Acceptance of Autonomous Vehicles Using Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology and Diffusion of Innovations

Journal PaperAmirkabir Journal of Civil Engineering , 2020 August 18, {Pages }

Abstract

The emergence of the autonomous vehicle (AV) cause a revolution in the future of transportation system. Regarding, potential benefits of this technology, new and unknown challenges arise in transportation. In this regard assessing the effectiveness of these vehicles is to identify the factors affecting their adoption. In previous studies, many researchers have used unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT) to investigate the latent factors affecting AV adoption, which is a combination of the eight previous technology acceptance and adoption models, but neglected some of the variables. This paper uses the combination of UTAUT and diffusion of innovations (DOI) and investigates the latent variables including performance expec

The association between the route-level walkability measures and children’s walk to school

Journal PaperAmirkabir Journal of Civil Engineering , 2020 July 13, {Pages }

Abstract

Increasing active school trips is a strategy for children’s health. Despite that the route features may associate with higher amounts of walking school trips, the majority of previous studies have focused on buffer-level characteristics of the built environment. Moreover, the role of children’s interest has not been widely examined in previous studies. The present study investigates the associations between the route-level features of the built environment, socio-economic, and cognitive characteristics on children’s walk to school. A total of 340 questionnaires were distributed among 7-12 year-old pupils across three primary schools in a neighbourhood in Tehran. For each route to school the environmental features were collected by mea

Modeling Escorting School Trips by Employed Parents Based on Latent Variables

Journal PaperThe Journal of Planning and Budgeting , Volume 24 , Issue 4, 2020 February 10, {Pages 125-143 }

Abstract

Trips are an inseparable aspect of our lives, and nowadays their purposes have been changed and their number has increased. Most of the trips are done by cars, which make lots of harmful influences on our environment (such as pollution, global warming, and lack of energy sources), and they also bring about negative impacts on the economy and society. In order to have sustainable development, transportation managers should make long-term investments and policies on public transportation and active travel modes. In view of that, in addition to socio-economic variables and attributes of trips, we investigate the effect of latent psychological variables such as attitude, perceived behavioral control, subjective norms, and intention on escorting

Socio-Demographic Factors Impact on Willingness to Buy and Use Autonomous Vehicles in Tehran

Journal Paperفصلنامه علمی مطالعات مدیریت ترافیک , Volume 1398 , Issue 55, 2020 February 20, {Pages 61-90 }

Abstract

Today, autonomous vehicles are recognized as revolution in people mobility. Despite of many benefits of AVs, distrust is the main barrier to people acceptance. This paper aims to survey the willingness to buy, use in stop-go driving condition and shared use in 22 districts of Tehran through a sample size of 338 individuals. A stated preference questionnaire was designed for this purpose and distributed for the first time in Iran as a developing country. Regarding descriptive analysis, the relationship existence and correlation coefficient were assessed using chi-square test, Cramer's V and Spearman correlation coefficient. Results show 59% willingness and 37% unwillingness to buy of people in this technology, as well as 70% willingness to u
